"Throughout decades of advocating for the community, I’m very proud of my achievements in empowering the community to understand their legal, political or immigration rights so that they can defend for themselves and prosper in this new and challenging living environment."
In 2002, I was elected as a Trustee to the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education and I’ve become the first Vietnamese American school board member elected in the U.S. and outside of Vietnam. Since then, I’ve always championed expanding parental communication and engagement in schools, expanding schools and community partnership, expanding technology investment in school learning and pushing academic endeavors and expectation to students’ limits
I’m now the longest-serving Vietnamese American elected official in the United States.
GGUSD is now one of the top-performing school districts in the state, and may be in the nation. That distinction is due in large part to the district’s vision of empowering the most vulnerable among immigrant communities and low-income families and turning their challenges into advantages in their academic achievements.
My success as a Trustee at GGUSD is a testament to my ability and willingness to work with everyone, listen to everyone’s concerns, leveraging the limited resources to make the biggest bang for the buck without losing sight of the ultimate focused goal of ensuring the best lifelong success for all students graduating from our school district. GGUSD has become one of the best performing school districts in the county and state of California.
That is my mission as a Trustee at GGUSD. For the future of our children and our community, we keep steady that mission. I need your support in joining me in that mission.
